Verti.School
Narrow, strict block with vertical alignment
The existing building is contrasted with a narrow five-storey block constructed as a timber frame. Its construction grid, developed from the timber construction logic, is also reflected in the façade. On the courtyard side, there is a pergola made of reinforced concrete that connects all classrooms directly to the courtyard area. Inside, the classrooms are organised in clusters across floors and the associated common rooms are connected via a spiral staircase. The school extension is unconventionally organised vertically, saving space even though the building class entails higher fire protection requirements. The schoolyard area is maximised by the narrow building, which is set right up against the site boundary. The project has a strict language appropriate to timber construction, which emphasises the stringency of the concept.
