Zusammen im Zehnten
Resource-saving extension with room cells
The Zusammen im Zehnten project is impressive on multiple levels. The additional storey combines innovative typologies for living, working and communal living in two additional blocks on the street and courtyard wings. The timber construction method is also innovative. The existing roof is removed and three-dimensional room cells made of wood are stacked on a new load-bearing ceiling in combination with solid wood ceilings. The cross-laminated timber ceilings are always suspended between the room modules. This allows a high degree of prefabrication and an economical and resource-saving use of wood. The mixture of room modules and elements has also been consistently well thought out in terms of the floor plans. The design respects the existing building, and the simply designed timber façade is a perfect match.
